Always Growing
One of my kids recently expressed some concern about living forever after the resurrection. I remember thinking the same thing when I was young. Eternity seems overwhelming.
I do know one thing. I’d like to be alive tomorrow. And I’m pretty sure I’ll want to be alive the day after that. I could take eternity one day at a time.
But the main reason eternity seems overwhelming is because we assume the more we know, the less there is to know. As if at some point we’ll be able to exhaust our ability to enjoy God and His gifts.
It’s actually the opposite. The more you know, the more there is to know. The more you enjoy, the more there is to enjoy.
This reminds me of an exchange between Aslan and Lucy in Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis:
“Welcome, child,” [Aslan] said.
“Aslan" said Lucy "you're bigger."
"That is because you are older, little one," answered he.
"Not because you are?"
"I am not. But every year you grow, you will find me bigger.”
God doesn’t grow or change or get older. But as we grow we find there is more of God to know and enjoy.
What do you think?
