“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV).
Stop trying harder. You’re surrounded by a cloud of witnesses (Hebrews 11). Men and women who did great things for the kingdom. And they did them by faith.
How do you do the same? You don’t start by putting your head down and pumping those legs. You start by laying aside the weight and the sin.
Stop pretending that you can earn God’s favor by working harder. You can’t. It’s already been earned by Jesus. So cast off those silly ideas, confess any sin you need to confess, and run light on your feet.
This isn’t a one time thing. Over and over you should ask, “In what area of my life am I still trying to earn my salvation?” Over and over you should turn from that pride and look back to Christ.
Works don’t work. But grace does. Start with grace and watch the works that follow.
What do you think?
