How To Choose Friends
“As iron sharpens iron,
So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend” (Proverbs 27:17 NKJV).
There is a friend who is fun and easy to hang out with. And there is a friend who is challenging, has quirks, and periodically rubs you the wrong way.
I try to have challenging friends. Men who want to be men. Men who know that masculinity is taking responsibility and doing what’s right even if it hurts.
My litmus test for a friend is: Will they still be there if stuff went down and the world went bad? Usually the friend who passes that test is the challenging friend. Not the fun and easy to hang out with friend.
It’s easier to pick friends who don’t sharpen you. But it’s better to have friends who sharpen you like iron sharpens iron.
