How To Give Yourself For Your Wife
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, (Ephesians 5:25 NKJV).
Christ gave Himself for his Bride the Church. We often focus on Christ’s suffering and death, and we forget about Christ’s life, His resurrection, His ascension, and His current reign as King of all kings.
But Christ didn’t just give His death for His Bride the Church. He gave Himself. All of Him.
Many husbands would take a bullet for their wives. Good men are made to step up when it’s time.
But would you make the bed every morning? And would you do it cheerfully?
It’s good to know you’d be willing to take a bullet. You might even call it “giving yourself” for your wife. But if you had ignored your wife every day until it was time to take the bullet, that’s not actually giving your life. It’s just giving your death.
I’m not sure why, but it seems like men are more generally attracted to grand, one-time sacrifices. And women are more attracted to day-to-day sacrifices.
You already give yourself to her by being a faithful provider and protector. And that’s good.
If you want to take it to the next level, sacrifice yourself in small, but meaningful ways. Start out with at least one small sacrifice per day, and end up making it a way of life.
The rewards are worth it.
And if you aren’t married yet, start by thinking on these words: “Everybody wants to save the Earth; nobody wants to help Mom do the dishes” (P.J. O’Rourke in his book All the Trouble in the World).
