Junk Food Steals Your Tastebuds
I myself do not enjoy the society of small children: because I speak from within the Tao I recognize this is a defect in myself—just as a man may have to recognize that he is tone deaf, or colour blind (The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis, 2001, p19, originally published in 1944).
Here C.S. Lewis uses Tao as a description of a sort of natural law. Behaving in accordance with the Tao is behaving in accordance with how God made the world.
The Tao reveals a flaw within himself. According to the Tao, one should enjoy small children. Lewis sees he isn’t living how God would have him live.
Are there good things you don’t enjoy? Do you enjoy good literature or is it too dense? What about good music? Movies?
This isn’t about things that are morally good or bad (although that matters, too!). It’s about art and story that is objectively well done.
A man who only eats junk food, will lose his taste for everything else. Make a decision to love what is good and let it change you.
What do you think?
