Praying For Parking Spaces
A long time ago, I met someone who felt uncomfortable praying for a parking space. I believe they thought they were being humble. As if they didn’t want to bother God with such a little thing.
I disagree. It isn’t true that you can divide the world up into two parts: things you can handle on your own and things you need God to help you with.
For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? (1 Corinthians 4:7 NKJV)
All things come from God. In Him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). By God’s will all things continue to exist (Revelation 4:11).
In other words, parking spaces come from the LORD. Lack of parking spaces can be a trial. Some people respond to that trial with joy and some don't.
Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11 NKJV). But what if I already have more than today’s worth of bread at my house? Does that mean I shouldn’t bother God with that line of our Lord’s Prayer?
However much I’m blessed right now, it could all be taken away. And if it is, blessed be the name of the LORD (Job 1:21).
Pray without ceasing; rely on God for everything.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV)
What do you think?
