Productivity And The Gospel
There are productive people who hate the Gospel. It’s possible to get pretty far in this world through brute strength.
Our natural tendency is to believe that anyone who took the following verse seriously couldn’t be productive:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV).
Or this one:
“For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?” (1 Corinthians 4:7 NKJV).
We assume that believing the straight Gospel will make us lazy. God is literally asking us to stop trying to earn our salvation and to rest in Him for everything.
Gideon had 32,000 soldiers ready to fight the tyrannical Midianites, but this is what God said:
“The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me’” (Judges 7:2 NKJV).
God then sent home almost all of the 32,000 soldiers until only 300 remained. With that 300, Gideon killed 120,000 Midianites (Judges 8:10 NKJV).
Gideon did much more with 300 than he ever could’ve with 32,000.
Push the Gospel into every corner of your life. You can be more productive by believing God is your strength than by digging deeper and relying on your own power.
Enjoy the work He has given you and glorify Him for what He produces from that work.
