Reason And Faith Cannot Be Separated
It is idle to talk always of the alternate of reason and faith. Reason is itself a matter of faith. Is it an act of faith to assert that our thoughts have any relation to reality at all (Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton, 2001, p40, originally published in 1908).
The pure rationalist needs a lot of faith. If reason is his god, he must believe by faith that his reason is reasonable. Where did that reason come from? Who created the laws of logic? How did they get here?
The pure rationalist believes in reason ex nihilo. Instead of the world being created out of nothing by an eternal God, reason was created out of nothing by who knows how.
There is no such thing as reason apart from faith. They cannot be separated.
