The Christian Can't Hope For Too Much
“Hope? Let me tell you something, my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane. It's got no use on the inside. You'd better get used to that idea” (Ellis Boyd 'Red' Redding in the 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption).
I push myself to dream bigger. Thomas Chalmers said, “Regardless of how large, your vision is too small.”
Sometimes I sense that not everyone agrees with me on that. It makes them nervous to hope for too much. Like Red in the quote above. He served his time in prison without hope, because hope was too painful.
The Christian has the privilege of not being able to hope for too much. Even if none of my hopes come to pass in this life, I know God knows my hopes and He only withholds if He has a better idea.
God will show me how everything played a part in the greater hope of His kingdom and glory.
What do you think?
