The Freedom Of Just Weights And Measures
The Congress shall have Power…
To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;
To provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States (U.S. Constitution, Article 1 Section 8).
God made men to be free. One of the ways to enjoy that freedom is with a free market. And the government creates a free market.
What?! How can I say that the government creates a free market when it’s clear they are actively pursuing the opposite?
The purpose of government is to bear a sword. A sword that blesses its citizens for good, and executes wrath on him who practices evil.
“For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil” (Romans 13:4 NKJV).
A free market flourishes when every citizen knows that they can live and work and trade freely, and that the government will enforce justice.
Why did I quote the constitution earlier? Because freedom lies in just weights and measures. Our constitution requires Congress to “fix the Standard of Weights and Measures,” and “provide the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States.”
“You shall have honest scales, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt” (Leviticus 19:36 NKJV).
The LORD brought Israel out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. The LORD took the Egyptian’s slaves and made them freemen. And He commands them to have honest scales and weights.
I’m thankful the government doesn’t change the length of an inch or the weight of a pound on a whim—but it does counterfeit the securities and coin regularly. The dollar is shrinking.
This is an invisible tax. And it’s enslaving U.S. Citizens.
The solution is not anarchy. Free markets won’t flourish until the government 1) stops being the worst counterfeiter in the history of our country, and 2) holds itself and its citizens to a standard of just weights and measures.
What do you think?
