The Fruit Of Words
“A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:20-21 NKJV).
Work is applying words to the world. If you want to eat, you need to work. If you want to work, you need to think and/or speak words.
Maybe your work right now doesn’t require you to apply your words to the world. You are instead mindlessly applying someone else’s words to the world. However, a freeman doesn’t stay like that for long.
The architect puts his words on paper as blueprints. But that doesn’t mean the builder should mindlessly build from those blueprints. If he does, he won’t excel.
A good builder pursues excellence in the entire building process. Which includes using words to solve problems the architect didn’t anticipate.
In this way, words bring life. But the passage also says words can bring death.
Make your words fruitful, and be thoughtful. Feed yourself and your family with your words.
