The Lord's Prayer
I pray through the Lord’s Prayer usually once in the morning and once in the evening.
Here are some connections that I’ve made while regularly meditating on this prayer.
Our Father in heaven,
This reminds me of Mathew 7:11, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”
Hallowed be Your name.
This reminds me of Philippians 2:9-11, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Your kingdom come.
This reminds me of 1 Corinthians 15:25, “For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.”
Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
This reminds me of Habakkuk 2:14, “For the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, As the waters cover the sea.”
Give us this day our daily bread.
This reminds me of 1 Corinthians 4:7, “For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?”
And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
This reminds me of Matthew 18:33, “Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?”
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.
This reminds me of 2 Peter 2:9, “the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment.”
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
This reminds me of Matthew 28:18, “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
