Wealth Doesn't Need To Be Useful
God didn’t need to create anything.
One of the foundational tenants of evolution is that every species ultimately just wants to survive.
Survival of the fittest assumes that whatever exists today is whatever had the best chance of survival.
Why are humans religious? Because it helped them survive. Why do humans find some things beautiful and some things ugly? Because it helped them survive. Why do humans call some things good or true and other things not? Because it helped them survive.
This way of thinking sets usefulness above truth, goodness, and beauty.
But God didn’t need to create anything. His creation wasn’t useful to Him. He just did it for fun. He did it for His own glory and for our enjoyment.
So wealth doesn’t need to be useful. Enjoy what’s true just because it’s true. Enjoy the things that are good and the things that are beautiful.
whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things (Philippians 4:8).
You don’t need a utilitarian reason to enjoy God and His gifts.
Enjoy God by enjoying His gifts. And glorify Him by contemplating how the Giver of those gifts is even better than the gifts themselves.
