Whoever Loses His Life For My Sake Will Find It
When I was playing basketball in high school, I remember seeing a quote in the locker room at an away game. I can’t quote it verbatim, but it went something like this, “What I gave I kept; what I kept was lost forever.”
This is similar to Jesus’ words, “whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” (Matthew 16:25 NKJV).
The difference is one helps you play better basketball and the other saves your soul.
The Gospel is built into creation. So the basketball quote is true, even for those who reject Christ. That’s how God made the world. Some choose to strip the Gospel of Jesus and it’s sad that they don’t dream bigger.
Imagine four options with me, 1) hope without salvation, 2) hope with salvation, 3) no hope without salvation, and 4) no hope with salvation.
I’m not sure which is more tragic, #1 hope without salvation or #3 no hope without salvation. The one has pointless hope. The other has only despair.
My purpose in Freeman Newsletter is to give hope with salvation. While I will rejoice to see both #2 hope with salvation and #4 no hope with salvation in the resurrection—how much more glorious is it to live with hope!
