Less Worry; More Do
“There’s nothing like suspense and anxiety for barricading a human’s mind against the Enemy. He wants men to be concerned with what they do; our business is to keep them thinking about what will happen to them” (The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, 2001, p25).
Screwtape gives Wormwood a tactic for keeping men from God: anxiety.
I’ve written on this idea before. And I appreciate how C.S. Lewis states it.
God wants us concerned about what we do, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might” (Ecclesiastes 9:10 NKJV). Satan wants us concerned about what might happen, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things” (Matthew 6:34 NKJV).
If I have a down day, I find the fastest way to turn it around is to do something. Thinking through why I’m down doesn’t make it go away. Accomplishing something whether I feel like it or not does.
What do you think?
